Fabric sample by Phyllis Barron and Dorothy Larcher Stencilling was popular during the Arts & Crafts Movement because it was effective yet required relatively little equipment. Phyllis Barron and Dorothy Larcher continued to use stencilling in the 1920s but also revived the technique of hand-block printing. This example of one of their fabric samples from the 1920s and '30s was printed in brown on cream linen. The dappled effect was achieved by using an unfelted lino block.
