Plasterwork

Arts & Crafts designers including M H Baillie Scott experimented with plasterwork trying to convey the soft nature of the material and the way it was modelled by adding and pressing with the fingers. Ernest Gimson designed and made plasterwork friezes such as this one in his workshop at Pinbury. Plasterwork frieze by Ernest Gimson

Plaster mould by Norman Jewson Subsequently Gimson trained Norman Jewson in the craft; this plaster mould is one of Jewson's from the 1920s. It would have been made from a plaster or clay original.
